Brampton News Story

Graham Smith 3 August 1963 - 17 July 2019

Graham Smith, assistant caretaker with Brampton Parish Council, died peacefully at home in Mandeville Road on Wednesday July 17th. Graham lived his 55 years in the family home in Brampton, latterly as carer for his mum, Mary, until her move into The Hillings rest home at the beginning of 2019.

He spent most of his working life happily in the kitchen of the sergeants' mess on RAF Brampton and was rather lost when the RAF withdrew. He was pleased to find a new home with The Parish Council and enjoyed walking the village and connecting with the users of its community buildings. He also spent many happy hours with friends and
acquaintances in his other home, The Black Bull.

For a long time Graham's life was something of a struggle but, in the last six months, he conquered many of his challenges and was on a positive upward trajectory especially with the help and support of his parish council colleagues. Sadly his heart was not strong enough to sustain him in the new independent life to which he was looking forward with real enthusiasm.

Family circumstances mean that there will not be a public funeral service but the condolences and expressions of respect already received have been greatly appreciated.

A book of memories will be held in the parish office in which anyone is welcome to express any thoughts or messages.

This book will also be available in The Black Bull on Thursday September 5th when Graham's family will be pleased to buy a drink for any friends able to gather there between 7.30 and 9.00pm to share memories.
